This past July's golf tournament was held at the old "Orchard Hills" golf course at
Granite Falls, NC. Leon Barnwell, the hosting member as usual came up with a different format for us, NCDGA golfers to participate
in. He decided we were to play a modified Ryder's Cup tournament. Now "Ryder's Cup" is a biennial men's golf competition between
several teams. There were six teams presented. Unfortunately for Barnwell there were only 13 golfers and he had to make up 5
teams of two and one team of three. So the teams which had only two players were able to hit an extra tee shot per hole. This made
it somewhat fair.
So as the day winded down, the two guys, Larry Holloway and Tony Moore seen with
smiling faces came out as "Winners".They posted a gross score of 78, two shots better than the next team. That was the team of
Leon Barnwell, Billy Kanoy and Robert Schupp.
Members of NCDGA would like to thank Leon Barnwell for the fine
in preparing the tournament. The weather was somewhat hot with a few short sprinkles The fairways were playable and the greens
were little "slow". This is something you can expect in the middle of the summer. All in all everyone had a good time.
Now we can sit back and wonder what kind of golf game Leon Barnwell will come up with next year.
